After 5 years owning the previous generation M2, Papa Shmee decided it was time to upgrade to the all-new model and ordered a brand new car to his spec. As it happens, we're heading over to the very same dealer where I bought my original 123d about 15 years ago for a blast from the past - and better still, doing so in my recently purchased 1M, the flagship model from the range of that same car.
The spec of the new M2 has to be commended; crucially featuring the now-upgrade 6-speed manual gearbox on a car finished in Brooklyn Grey Metallic with M Exclusive interior. After a drive on a seriously cold day over to Sytner BMW in Stevenage, Navin and the team have everything prepared and ready to pull the covers back to reveal the new sportscar and get ready for a first drive.

Ordered one of these with the Carbon Package as soon as I could after seeing it. Instantly reminded me of the cars I would drive in the old NFS games just more modern. The fact that it has the S58 motor is just an amazing bonus

Your dad is a hot foot. Manual transmission is great when you can handle it. My husband loves manual. My husband says automatic is steering not driving. Love the colour and we know your dad will love driving his new baby

Papa Shmee should fit the M Performance kit, it takes the car visually to another level
The issue with choosing one of the bolder colours is, that you see the really not pretty design more clearly. This colour works better for me than most of the colours i've seen on the new M2, exactly because it puts a bit of a dampener on the horrible angles of this car. Kudos to your dad for choosing the manual transmission. That is the correct gearbox for this car, imho. It's supposed to be a fun car. Manual gearbox certainly helps with that. I hope he has a lot of fun with his new car.

Shame we didn’t get to meet your Dad. Felt strange watching a video about collecting your Dads car without meeting or even seeing your Dad.
The difference in size over the time between these cars, for me the 1M is the sweet spot in ever increasing dimensions, for a small performance car on British roads, and just about the ideal (with car play retro fitted) point for buttons and switches, and analogue dials over touch screens.

The photos before launch didn't do the M2 justice they look amazing in person the more I see them the more I want one
In US, the bi-color wheels are same price as black wheels. The auto and manual transmission as $0 adder as are red calipers.
@shmee150 an aftermarket bulb can work but can also cause a warning light. Or here in the US we have a small peanut bulb inside the headlight in the inside upper corner that are common to butn out.

Tim….your Dad’s car is a spiritual successor to my new 325i Sport which I bought in October 1986. Mine was Alpine white with Moccha cloth/check upholstery and sunroof. I did 32,000 miles in it all over Europe including past the Artic Circle and many miles in Germany and France. I sold it in 1989 but the next owner wrote it off in just a few weeks. Now..37 years on, I wonder if a similar spec M2 might be a suitable “ tribute” to my old car. I wish we had met your Dad in this film as he sounds like he might be an interesting enthusiast as well! Maybe next time…a Christmas SHMEE Family video would be good..a short clip of you all amongst some cars!! Good luck Dad….enjoy every moment!😃😃😃😃😃

The "old" M2 is just a stunning looking car. A highpoint in modern BMW design and IMO, leagues better looking than their current design language. I have the last gen m240i, and i think it's a nice balance of size, performance and sportiness.

I think you need a new m2 in the garage and you could do a built vs bought series between the m2 and the 1m where you modify the 1m to roughly the same as the new m2 and see what is quicker around the ring
